Temporal Systems

This work was created for a group exhibition with Artnauts, “An artist collective that uses the visual arts as a tool for addressing global issues while connecting with artists from around the world.” This work was exhibited DMZ Museum in South Korea and the theme was LIMINAL SPACE. Temporal Systems attempts to highlight the inadvertent outcome of the absence of humans as a result of conflict, which has allowed for species like the red-crowned crane to be protected and thus thrive.  The use of embroidery to map the rivers that run between the two nations and in the depiction of the crane reference the strength and the fragility of this space that both protects and endangers the inhabitants. Once the boundaries are removed will the presence of humans result in the erosion of this sanctuary or will peace bring about intentional stewardship?
